Cruel Intentions (1999) In this modern update of Dangerous Liaisons, Kathryn Merteuil (SMG) makes a bet that her step-brother, Sebastian, won't be able to bed Annette, a virgin who wants to wait until marriage. If he loses, Kathryn gets his Jaguar; if he wins, he gets Kathryn (whom Sebastian lusts after). Buffy fans will love to see this side of Sarah's prolific acting abilities; this character is along the lines of her character on "All My Children," though perhaps sluttier. With Ryan Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon, and Selma Blair.

Simply Irresistible (1999) In this romantic comedy, Sarah plays a waitress who inherits a restaurant. Though not a very good cook at first, she develops a magic ability that makes everyone absolutely crazy for her food. It's a better movie than it may sound, but it's not excellent. However, it was very nice to see Sarah as the true star of a movie (this is the first time), and she was able to hold her own. Also starring Sean Patrick Flannery.

She's All That (1999) In this Pretty Woman-meets-high-school tale, a popular guy takes a bet that he can turn any girl in school into the Prom Queen. He ends up actually falling for the chosen girl, a geeky art student. Sarah has a small, silent, and uncredited cameo as a girl who shakes her head in the cafeteria. The cameo is something of an inside joke, since the high school used for the filming of this movie is Torrance High School, the same high school used in Buffy (and Beverly Hills, 90210). Also appearing is Clea DuVall as Misty (Marcie Ross, the Invisible Girl from "Out of Mind, Out of Sight") and Carlos Jacott as the Prom Photographer (Ken from "Anne"). Starring Freddie Prinze Jr. and Rachael Leigh Cook.

Small Soldiers (1998) A major defense contractor has lost most of its government projects, so it's decided to team up with a toy company to provide smart chips for a new line of soldier and fantasy action figures. The problem is, the chips work too well, and the soldiers start to actually be soldier-like. Kind of like a sadistic Toy Story. Sarah voices a Gwendy doll in a small part of the movie. The late Phil Hartman's last movie. Starring Gregory Smith and Kirsten Dunst.

It is two years after the original attacks in Woodsboro and a movie based on those events has been released, spurring another round of killings.
