I adore my local city, though I'd be surprised to see it in the top 10. There are gems of cities and towns all over the world, which is why I think they have to be truly outstanding to make the top 10.Gandalf wrote:I take it these lists are created by readers choosing their own top destinations, which is why we're getting the odd lists? I know that my parents would probably have Inverness somewhere in their top 5. I've never been there myself, but they adore it.Callie wrote:I mean it'd be like listing Topeka, Kansas or Inverness, Scotland on there - lovely places, I'm sure, but top 10 in the entire world?!?

If I ever do visit you, and I hope I do, I have an image of us having tea, me bouncing little Beeb on my knee, the picture of innocence.Iago wrote:Top 10 things to see?
In no particular order, I'd like to see:
Lucretia's knickers
Gandalf's knickers
costello_girl's knickers
bettie's knickers
...
*rereads question*
Oh, uh, the Pyramids. *nods*
Yup, the Pyramids.
Then pulling down a bit of my waistband and going "There you go! You've seen them!"

Isn't it amazing? I love my city.Pataouet wrote:I've been to London, Barcelona, Rome and I work in Paris.
I would absolutely go to the other places listed but I'd add Bangkok, Thaïland (or any other place in Thaïland for what it's worth (especially the jungles)).
Oh and Edinburgh ! I just totally fell in love with the city when I went to the WD party last year.
Re: Top 10 places to see before you die
Hereford is where Ed (ex, and now good friend - some of the older WDers may remember him!) is from, and I thought it was lovely. A charming historical city, lovely cathedral, good olde pubs, amazing countryside.Callie wrote:I've been to three - London, Paris and Rome.
However, I'm too busy laughing that the top 10 this week, has Hereford (UK) in it. Hereford???? Even most UKers would be pushed to locate it on a map, I'd wager, and apart from cider and cattle, I can't think of one famous feature. I mean it'd be like listing Topeka, Kansas or Inverness, Scotland on there - lovely places, I'm sure, but top 10 in the entire world?!?
Incidentally, my current favourite location is Riga in Latvia. Stunning place and I adored it. But I don't want it to become overrun with tourists, because its lowkeyness was part of the attraction.
Re: Top 10 places to see before you die
Have you been to any of these places?
I've been to NY many times
Would you like to go to any of these places? Or not?
You offering?
Could you compile a better list?
With their criteria? Maybe.

I knew someone would come up with this joke. I hesitated if I would change it, but decided not to and to throw it on English-is-not-my-first-language if someone answered to the callGandalf wrote:You've been all those places, just this week?!
