Please recommend a DVD ripper to me

A temporary board while I'm working out issues with the real WD.

The posts made here will not appear on the real WD when it re-opens.

Please note that I won't be providing any technical support for this board, as I would prefer to focus my attention on fixing the other board. So, if you're confused by anything, just try to figure things out, search the phpBB forums, ask other users for help, or just bear with it.

Please recommend a DVD ripper to me

Post by mouse »

I want to be able to rip DVDs and use pieces on Windows Movie Maker. (I have Vista.) Can someone please recommend a good ripper that's either free or not too expensive?

Thanks!

I use AnyDVD to cause the computer to ignore the encryption on the DVDs. I then use either Roxio Easy Media Creator or Nero Recode to rip the DVD.

This page is a pdf file that includes a detailed description of how to rip, including the free software to use. I haven't used to because I own the paid software to do it already.

I would avoid programs like "I Copy DVDs", "123 Copy DVD" or anyone that does it automatically for you. The reason why is that there are tricks that the movie companies use to trick these programs. For example, if you rip the Simpsons movie, there are two versions of the movie on the disc, one that is slightly longer than the other. The automatic programs automatically select the longer one. This version of the movie is corrupt and will not play properly, so you need to select the shorter version. Doing this manually lets you avoid this.
