Okay, the sex and the city ringtone almost got me
So I saw on download.com that there are programs to make you own ringtone. But then I thought, oh I must ask my peeps first. I don't know what I would do without you guys, my eternal testing. Nobody else provides the REAL info like you all do.
Not to mention the awesome spelling and grammar from this group. I lurves you guys.
If you have a cell, what ringtone do you use?
If you could (having a cell or not) - what ringtone would you choose?
I haz cell phone
Re: I haz cell phone
Oh yeah, and my baby has been asleep since 12:30 - almost six hours now. He has woken up twice to feed and go back to sleep. I have gotten SO MUCH DONE! He is my amazing non-napping baby all the time. Every once in a while I get an hour to do a little something - update The Blog, etc - but today I actually found the floor in the living room and set up my new tv stand I bought yesterday. It is sweeeeet.
But fear for me tonight. Oh yes. I'll be watching a whole lot of late night tv while Mal does the River Dance in his jumperoo.

If you have a cell, what ringtone do you use?
I have several different ringtones, but most of them are attached to specific people in my address book. My standard ringtone is (predictably) the BtVS theme. My favorite, though, is Sweet Child of Mine. I love that song.
Oh! I just recently got the communicator chirp and the boatswain whistle from ST:TOS. The former has renewed my interest in getting a communicator tattooed on my boob so I can tap it and then use my bluetooth ear piece and look super, super cool. I use the latter as my alarm. It really puts me in a mood! But then I forget where I really am and walk into the bathroom door because it doesn't automatically slide open for me. Unfortunately, dermal regenerators do not actually exist at this point.

I'd like to have the Buffybot saying, "That'll put marzipan in your pie plate, Bingo!"

Like MenleyNin, my tones are tied to people. Fred is "Thunderstruck" by AC/DC, the ladies I have tea with are "Living Dead Girl" by Rob Zombie, and everyone else is "Sweet Child o' Mine".
If you could (having a cell or not) - what ringtone would you choose?
I want to add the BTVS, Angel and Firefly themes, and the Dr. Horrible laugh, but haven't figured out how to get them on there yet. I also want to steal MenleyNin's idea for the marizpan quote, and have it as my text message alert.

My default ringtone is part of a Muse song, "Supermassive Black Hole." No lyrics, just music.
My assigned ringtones are "Teenage Dirtbag" by Wheetus for my husband and "Andy, You're a Star" by The Killers for my sister.
If you could (having a cell or not) - what ringtone would you choose?
If I ever changed my husband's, I think I'd want it to be "I Was Never a Normal Boy" by Nightmare of You. Or, possibly, "My Name is Trouble" by that same band.
I've considered downloading "The Imperial March" (Darth Vader's theme song) for when my mom calls (which is what my husband has for his boss).
Other than that, I haven't assigned ringtones for people, just because nothing special comes to mind for them.

Re: I haz cell phone
Do you all just download them with your phone (and then I assume you have some kind of internet browsing bundle with your cell plan) or do you download them to you computer and then transfer them over?
And do you pay, or find them for free?
I don't have web browsing with my plan, so to access the internet via my phone will cost.. Malcolm. Yep, full first born.

If you have a cell, what ringtone do you use?
I use a few. Everyone on of my good friends has their own ringtone. For example my buddy T has "March of the Pigs" by Nine Inch Nails. My girl E has "Girl Anachronism" by the Dresden Dolls. I use MP3s, edit and optimize them for the phone. Hell I make tones for all my friends also.
If you could (having a cell or not) - what ringtone would you choose?
My answer would change on any given day, but right now, I'd go with my favorite: "Your Best Nightmare" by London After Midnight.
In response to your question mgan, most phones these days have data cables that either come with, or can be purchased for. You just plug your phone into your computer via USB and using software like BitPim (what I use) I can edit basically anything on my phone, including the ringtones. I never pay for tones.
There are also many sites that will give you free tones as well but I've kinda moved passed them as I'm a geek and like to make my own.
So yeah... what kind of phone do you have?

Re: I haz cell phone
With my plan, I can browse for song titles using the phone for free. I have T-Mobile, so they have something called "T-Zones" in there where you can use your phone to download stuff. When I choose something I want, the company sends it directly to my phone. It costs, I don't know, $2.49 or $3.49 or something per ringtone which they add to my bill for the next month.mgan wrote:Do you all just download them with your phone (and then I assume you have some kind of internet browsing bundle with your cell plan) or do you download them to you computer and then transfer them over?

One thing I didn't used to know: With mine (and maybe everyone's), ringtones can't be transferred from one phone to another. So, if I buy a new phone, I can use my same SIM card to keep my contact numbers, but since the ringtones are saved to the phone itself instead of the SIM, I have to buy all new ringtones. Even if I want the same ones again! Sucks!
Re: I haz cell phone
There is a big kafuffle in Canadia these days as cell phones are not regulated - and most people think this is a key area of difference: unless I buy an extension to my monthly bundle and add web browsing, to access the internet costs way too much.
And given that I am wanting to keep these monthly costs down these days (and that I balked enough at actually getting a cell phone) I am wanting to not add another $10/m just to download ringtones...
I have a Samsung. Is nothing too fancy - well aside from being purple. The particulars of the user guide state SPH-M510.
At this point I don't have anything to connect the phone to my computer. I have a removable memory chip that I can move between to take songs back and forth (and probably more things I don't know about). It also has bluetooth as does, supposedly, my computer.
Now, I tried to make my blueteeth talk to each other with my computer and my stereo last fall and never got them to chat. So I will try again with the phone and the computer - although I'm not certain what I would want them to say. I have the sinking feeling that I will not be able to make my own ringtone (or, I will be able to but that there isn't any way to then get it on my phone).
But hey, I'm pretty impressed I figured out how to make my phone use the voice activation...

Re: I haz cell phone
And yeah, our ringtones run about the same price - around the $3-$4 mark.. but they are clear that unless you have it added to your plan that the 'web accessing' to get the ringtone can be a fair bit.
